I just completed Day 2 (not counting months ago when I started sanding this beauty) of this cute chest of drawers that I received for FREE! My intention is to use it as an accent piece between my kitchen, living room and dining room –> pictures to follow on my final reveal post but for now, here are some progress pictures! Notice the little spot on top? I am not sure why it didn’t take the stain like the rest of the top but I guess it adds some character, right? I am going to have decorations on top anyways, so I guess it doesn’t matter too much – just going to roll with the punches!
Right now, my color scheme in my open concept living room/dining room/kitchen is dark using browns, burgundy and beige. I wanted to add some brightness to my decor so I started by purchasing some awesome pillow covers similar to the ones below at Christmas time last year in a yellow color. (Affiliate link) –> I already had pillows, I just wanted to change up the color of them. Side Note: have you seen the price for new throw pillow?!? Crazy, I know! This was a cheaper alternative to sprucing up the feel and I really love the idea that I can take these pillow cases off and wash them! My dear old dobie is spoiled and loves to lay on all the blankets and pillows on the couch 🙂
Anyways, back on tract – I finished Day Two of my project by staining the top a real dark rich walnut color to accent the bright yellow Arles Annie Sloan Chalk Paint I used. The dark walnut stain will help tie in my existing dark woods in my house to this piece of furniture. I just fell in love with the colors! I feel they complement each other so well…I also put a second coat of paint on the drawer fronts and distressed the cabinets in a few places. I didn’t want to go for an overly distressed piece so I just took the sander to the edge and also added a few “character” spots. While I wait for the stain to really penetrate, Day 3 will be distressing the cabinet drawer fronts and waxing the whole piece with Annie Sloan clear wax. Once I get the cabinet pulls delivered next week, I’ll be posting the final reveal!
I am loving the way the cabinet is turning out and cannot wait for the final reveal! Stay tuned!
